Deena Mitlak (Editor-in-Chief)
Deena is a sophomore at Barnard. She thinks the Barnard Weight Room is super and especially appreciates the two Arc Trainers. A native of Princeton Junction, NJ, she usually prefers working out in the gym to the spoils of nature, and especially loves yoga and stretching. Deena isn’t sure what she wants to pursue in her career but she is excited to figure it out!
Ada Rubin (Editor-in-Chief)
Ada Rubin is a sopho
more at Barnard College and a native Upper West Sider. A competitive swimmer for ten years, she continues to swim on the Masters Team at Columbia. When not studying chemistry(she’s pre-med), Ada enjoys running, cooking healthy meals, eating sushi (though not in this economy), and walking in Central Park with her furry dog, Oprah.

Melissa Brito (Chief Marketing Officer)
Melissa is a sociology major and a current senior at Barnard. As a child, Melissa found trips to the supermarket more interesting than trips to the toy store. She realizes that her immense love for food has been present since early in her childhood. She remembers she started cooking around age 8, simple things like oatmeal and eggs. Later in her teens, she started becoming more aware of health, and began reading the nutrition labels of the foods she consumed to make sure she learned about nutrients and vitamins. Currently Melissa does not have a kitchen on campus, so she enjoys going out and trying new cuisines. For now, Melissa plans to go into the health field and become a Nurse Practitioner when she graduates from Barnard, but real desire would be to become a chef or a health food writer. Perhaps she could combine her nursing education with food and in the future own a gourmet food business that caters to children’s health. Oh, and like Deena and other Barbelle writers, Melissa loves the Arc Trainer for helping her combat the Freshman 15.
Zara Mogilevsky (Chief Marketing Officer)
Zara’s favorite vegetable is celery. She can usually be found in that awkward corner of the Barnard library under a very large pile of books and papers (topped by a huge pink Klean Kanteen). To stay in shape, Zara enjoys trying out new types of yoga and running up to the 7th floor of Hamilton Hall while talking on her cell phone. She also loves rice cakes, and thinks that anyone who says they’re disgusting doesn’t know what they’re missing!
Kari Putterman (Editor)
Kari Putterman is a junior English major at Barnard. She loves to run and spends most of her time running in Central Park, trails in NJ, and competing in New York Road Runners races. She also bikes and swims. She’s planning on racing in Boston Marathon 2010 and competing in her first triathalon this summer.
